AMOLED vs LCD: Which Display Should You Actually Pay For?
The difference is real, but it matters less than the marketing suggests — and more than the spec sheet shows. Here is where each one wins.
Every budget phone listing shouts about its display. Most of that is noise. Here is what the two panel types actually change day to day.
How they differ
AMOLED lights each pixel individually, so black pixels are genuinely off. LCD uses a single backlight behind the whole panel, so black is really dark grey.
Where AMOLED wins
- True blacks and much higher contrast
- Lower power draw on dark interfaces
- Always-on display becomes practical
Where LCD still holds up
- No burn-in risk over long ownership
- Often brighter in direct sunlight at the budget end
- Cheaper to replace when broken — worth knowing before you buy
The honest answer
Under ₹15,000, take AMOLED if the trade-off is a marginally slower processor. Do not take it if the trade-off is significantly worse battery capacity.
